Director: Denise Rosenthal
Denise Rosenthal was born and raised in Ireland. She was admitted to St. Nicholas House to pursue her degree in Montessori education. After three years of training, she became certified to teach children ages 2 1/2 to 12 years. She came to the United States in 1990 and began her teaching career at the Christopher Academy, working as a Lead Teacher in the Toddler and Primary classrooms from 1994-1998. Denise was part of the first teaching team to develop a Teacher Education program in Westfield, New Jersey. In September 1990, adults interested in learning more about Maria Montessori and her excellent ideas had the opportunity to pursue their certification. She was Head Lecturer from 1990-2008. It was a position she enjoyed immensely, however she missed the daily interaction with children. She stepped down from this role to become the Campus Director at Christopher Academy in Scotch Plains. This gave her the opportunity to interact with families on an ongoing basis. She held this position from 2008-2013. Mrs. Rosenthal is a member of the American Montessori Society and is a Certified AMS Accreditor. Mrs. Rosenthal resides in Westfield, New Jersey with her husband and her two children who attended Westfield High School, both are Montessori graduates as well.

Director of Admissions & Operations: Dr. Ruth Dyke, DVM
Dr. Ruth Dyke discovered her love of Montessori education while working as a substitute teacher at Christopher Academy in 1997. She joined the staff in 1998 and received her Early Childhood Montessori credential from the American Montessori Society in 2001. Ruth worked as a Lead Teacher in an AMS accredited Primary classroom for over 14 years and developed a passion for incorporating developmentally appropriate early childhood practice in an authentic Montessori environment. This passion and dedication led her to a position as a Head Lecturer for the Center of Montessori Teacher Education. As a CMTE lecturer, Ruth leads prospective Montessori teachers in their learning of math, science, geography, history, observation techniques and classroom leadership. Ruth is excited to share all of her excitement and enthusiasm for Montessori education, child development and love of math and science with the Hoboken Montessori School community. In 2016, Ms. Ruth became a member of the Executive Board of the New Jersey Montessori Association Corporation (NJMAC), helping schools throughout NJ maintain oustanding Montessori education programs. In addition, Ruth has been honored to speak at state and national Montessori conferences. Prior to discovering Montessori education, Ruth earned a B.S. from Rutgers University and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University. She relaxes at home with her husband, her many pets and garden.

Operations Coordinator: Ms. Ana
Ms. Ana graduated from Marquette University with a BA in English Literature in 2006. She worked at Carmen High School of Science and Technology, a charter school in Milwaukee, as a Operations Specialist, helping to manage the office and grant writing. It was during this time that she discovered her love of baking. She moved to NYC in 2010 to attend the International Culinary Center for Pastry Arts and graduated in 2011. She started at HMS in 2013, as Operations Coordinator. Ms. Ana has focused on streamlining office procedures and increasing the efficiency of the supply chain. Ms. Ana married her long time sweetheart, Jim Mai in October 2016. At home she likes to bake for her family and friends.

Primary Head Teacher: Ms. Houria
Ms. Houria joins HMS with over 15 years of teaching experience. Ms. Houria began her career in education earning her B.A. in Education from University Hassan II in Morocco, in 1994. She specialized in teaching learning strategies in the foreign language classroom. Ms. Houria began working at MUI in Union City, NJ as a language teacher in 2000. She became very interested in the Montessori approach that the school’s curriculum was based on and pursued a Montessori Certification at the Center for Montessori Teacher Education in New York in 2007. Since earning her diplomas, she has served as a Co-teacher and Lead teacher. In addition, she speaks fluent English, French and Arabic. Ms. Houria resides in Clifton New Jersey with her husband and three children. Two of her children are Montessori graduates. She enjoys travelling, art, creating new Montessori materials and spending time with her family.

Primary Head Teacher: Ms. Katja
Ms. Katja started her career with a degree in Early Childhood Education from Ochsenfurt State School for Teacher Education in Germany. She worked for six years in Germany as a head teacher in preschool and kindergarten classrooms. In 2009, Katja gained even more experience as a head teacher for two years at the Bilingual Immersion Preschool Program at the German Language School in Morristown, NJ. Her passion for teaching and desire to foster an education for the whole child brought her to study the Montessori philosophy. Katja earned her AMS Early Childhood Credential from the Montessori Teacher Training Institute of Mercer County CC and started her Montessori career as an intern at HMS in 2011. She has grown tremendously as Head Teacher and has made strong contributions in developing new and innovating programming at HMS. Impressed by the underlying intelligence of the Montessori method and materials, Katja believes deeply in the prepared environment to allow creativity, foster independent learning, and create a sense of belonging for all children.

Primary Head Teacher: Ms. Kendra
Ms. Kendra comes to us from ABC’s of Learning, a Montessori school in Towaco, NJ where she taught the Pre-K and Kindergarten reading program for three years. She also has public school experience teaching both First and Second Grade at The Lincoln Park Elementary School, in Lincoln Park, NJ. Ms. Kendra graduated from Salisbury University with a B.S in Early Childhood Education. She has a strong passion for young minds and a sound understanding of the Montessori philosophy. She earned her AMS certification in 2015 from Westside Montessori School in NYC . Her energetic personality, artistic style and love for children will surely light up the Primary Classroom.

Primary Head Teacher: Ms. Victoria
Ms. Victoria joined HMS in 2012, after graduating from Temple University with a B.A. in Printmaking and Art History in 2011. She has grown considerably at HMS and has worked in almost every teaching position at the school. In addition to her work in the classroom, Ms. Victoria has been pivotal in developing HMS's art program. Her passion in working with children on various art projects has been showcased at HMS's Annual Art Auction each year. Ms. Victoria received her Montessori certification from Westside Montessori School in New York City in 2016. She brings a joy, enthusiasm and creative spirit to her classroom that both students and parents are drawn to. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys her time at home with her family and daughter, Zoey.

Pre-Primary Head Teacher: Ms. Tabatha
Ms. Tabatha graduated from Montclair State University in 2015 with a B.A. in Elementary Education. She came to HMS that summer, and began her journey as an assistant teacher. She instantly fell in love with the Montessori method, and knew this is where she belonged as an educator. Two years later, she completed her Montessori certification at West Side Montessori School in Manhattan. Tabatha grew up at the Jersey Shore and is a true beach girl at heart. She loves going on various adventures with her dog, Minnie. Tabatha’s warm and caring personality will certainly capture the hearts of your little learners in the classroom.

Pre-Primary Head Teacher: Ms. Katie
Ms. Katie has been with Hoboken Montessori School since inception in 2011. She graduated from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA with a B.S. in Marketing. After beginning a career in Business Development, she decided to follow her passion for teaching. Aside from being a Montessori child herself, Katie has been working alongside young children in different environments for over 9 years. Ms. Katie has grown with HMS starting as an assistant in the Toddler Classroom and became Head Teacher in 2013-2014. She is instrumental in developing the Toddler/Pre-Primary curriculum to help prepare children to enter the Primary classroom. Katie obtained her Toddler AMS certification in 2014 from West Side Montessori School in New York City.

Toddler Head Co-Teacher: Ms. Margie
Ms. Margie brings both warmth and depth to HMS and is a Head Teacher in the Toddler classroom. She has over 17 years of experience in a variety of Montessori settings. Margie is credentialed by the American Montessori Society and has had extensive experience at both the Primary and Toddler levels. She is committed to tailoring authentic Montessori practice for each and every child in the environment. Margie is fluent in Spanish and enjoys bringing her appreciation for various cultures into the classroom. Her smile and laughter makes the Toddler classroom a bright, safe and happy place.

Toddler Head Co-Teacher: Ms. Debbie
Ms. Debbie studied Early Childhood education at Kean University and completed her AMS certification from the Center for Montessori Education in New York in May 2013. Ms. Debbie previously worked at Olive Tree for 5 years and Community Montessori Academy for 2 years, before joining HMS. Ms. Debbie brings many talents to the classroom including her experience as a dance teacher for a number of years. Ms. Debbie has a deep desire to evoke and satisfy the child’s natural curiosity, all the while making the child feel safe and comfortable. The deep sense of caring Ms. Debbie has for the children will be evident to you as a parent and most importantly will be felt by your child.
